Christian Vision and Values

Our new Vision

On Thursday 1st September our whole school community, met for a whole day to redesign our vision and values.

This week the children added their ideas and we are VERY PROUD to unveil our new vision.

We are the Kirkdale, St Lawrence family. We are a nurturing, safe, inclusive school which is the anchor of our diverse community. Through God’s love, we support everyone to flourish spiritually, academically and personally; this is our heartbeat.  All are valued here for who they are and what they could become.

From this vision and from everything that our whole school community said about this we have chosen this Bible verse as it represents our school and its vision perfectly:

May he give you the desire of your heart and make your plans succeed

Psalm 20:4

From this, we created our school motto:

Together, with God in our heart, the path to our dreams will start.

Our new Values

Christian Values are fundamental expressions of what we think and believe.

As a school we encourage children to think about personal and social values, to become aware of, and involved in the life and concerns of our parish churches, their community and wider society.  In this way we develop their capacity to be active and effective future citizens.

This is our Kirkdale, St Lawrence family.

HOPE: We want everyone in our school to aspire to be the best that they can be. To know that there is always something worth working towards

THANKFULNESS: We are thankful for the gift of Jesus and God's love. We want everyone in our school to recognise the things, no matter how small, that they feel lucky to have and give thanks for these.

TRUST: This is the foundation of all relationships. To work as a whole school community to improve the lives of everyone within it we need to trust each other and in ourselves.

COMPASSION:  The Christian value that Jesus showed us in everything he did. We aspire to show compassion in all of our relationships. Through compassion we can forgive others. Through compassion we can understand the lives of others also.

COURAGE:  We want us all to be brave, take risks and build their resilience. These are essential skills in learning and in life. The Christian value of courage encourages to always do this.

We use the British Sign Language (BSL) signs for our five values:

HOPE - cross both of your fingers and put them at shoulder height in front of your body

THANKFULNESS - place your flat hand in front of your mouth (palm to the mouth) and move your hand down to waist height so that observers can see the palm of your hand

TRUST - Make a flat hand (palm up) with your left hand. IN a "chopping motion" move your right hand down to your left hand

COMPASSION - Flat hand in front of your chest (palm outwards) and "pat" or circle the hand as though stroking something.

This half term in school we are looking at our Christian value 'compassion'.

The word compassion is more than feeling empathy for others but it’s the action that is involved in showing that we care.

To show compassion is something we all should strive to do. We meet people everyday who are fighting battles that we don’t know about, and a lot of the time they don’t want to share or they feel they can’t share.

When we see a need we can all do our bit.

Jesus died to show us his love for us. Every time we look at the cross we see love in action. True compassion.

He lived his life showing compassion to everyone he met.

He healed the blind, He healed the sick,

He fed the hungry and He sat with the marginalised.

Who might need a listening ear today ?

Who might just be wanting a hug or even a kind word or smile?

These are the things that we each can do and actually helps us too because as we show compassion, we feel better too.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you.
