Welcome to Reception!
We are all really enjoying school and have settled well. We are getting to know each other, building friendships and exploring our learning environment.
In our class we have a fabulous team of Early Years enthusiasts who are dedicated to all of our children. We aim to provide a safe and stimulating learning environment for all the children to thrive in and challenge them to be the best that they can be.

Our new topic is Traditional Tales.
This term we are learning...
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We continue to build strong, positive relationships with our friends and adults in class. We are respectful to others and have learnt how to listen to them, help them and use kind words. This term we will have talking partners to discuss our learning with and we will further explore our similarities, differences, likes and dislikes. Everyday in class we practise mindfulness to develop our thinking skills and to relax our bodies and minds ready to learn.
Literacy/Communication and Language
In Literacy, we are learning to retell stories, take on character roles and use our phonic knowledge to write short captions. We will be describing characters, settings and events. We will be sequencing pictures, extending our vocabulary, describing, explaining and discussing our favourite traditional tales. Each day we have phonics. This term we will be learning how to blend and segment a range of words, using our phonic knowledge to write words and captions independently. We will also continue to have individual reading sessions in addition to guided reading sessions.
In Maths, we will be focusing on positional language, number, counting forwards and backwards, measuring weight, length, size and learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. Each week we will complete maths challenges and we will have opportunities to apply maths to all areas of our learning.
Every week we are continuing our funky finger activities and dough disco to strengthen the muscles in our fingers. In P.E. we are developing our confidence to move in a range of ways - skipping, hopping, jumping, running. We are learning to negotiate space successfully when playing racing and chasing games and we are learning how to travel over, under and through balancing equipment.
Understanding the World
Reception are learning how to say 'Good Afternoon' in a different language each week. This has been great fun and helped to develop our knowledge on different countries that our friends are from and their cultures. This term we will be celebrating 'Chinese New Year' and learning a dragon dance as well as tasting some Chinese food. Forest school has given us the opportunity to explore the outdoors, investigating the world around us and extending our knowledge on caring for plants and animals. We will be learning how to complete a range of programmes on the computer in addition to using the interactive whiteboard.
Expressive Arts and Design
This term we will develop our role-play and have many opportunities to act out narratives with our friends. We will develop our knowledge of media and materials, develop our creativity, imagination and construct with a purpose in mind.
