Computing
At Kirkdale St Lawrence, our Computing curriculum equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to become responsible, creative and capable users of technology. Through our Anchor Curriculum, pupils develop their understanding of computer science, information technology and digital literacy, while learning how technology can be used creatively and safely in everyday life.
Computing is woven into our wider curriculum, giving children opportunities to apply their digital skills across different subjects and contexts. Pupils learn to create, communicate, solve problems, develop algorithms and understand how technology works, alongside developing their knowledge of online safety and responsible digital citizenship.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that knowledge and skills are revisited and built upon as pupils progress through the school.
We teach three clear aspects of the computing curriculum: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy using the Teach Computing scheme. Children will also be given the chance to explore what the internet really is, looking at how it works and how information is sent from one place to another.
Online safety is a critical part of our computing curriculum. We celebrate Online Safety day every year by taking part in different activities in all year groups.
We use seesaw to record our computing lessons in our seesaw journals.
