Hello from Reverend Gill Hoy

Hello, for those who don't know me, my name is Gill.  Wow how time has flown by so quickly.  We are beginning a new school year and very school in October it will be a whole year since I began my role here at Kirkdale, St. Lawrence as School Chaplain.  You may remember me from working alongside Rev. Capt. Mike Griffin at St. Lawrence with St. Paul's Churches where I am the Curate, or from our coffee mornings here at school.

The past year of course has been overshadowed with all the restrictions and changes that Covid-19 brought and of course many have been affected by illness and loss of loved ones throughout the time and will continue to be so.

Many of our plans have had to be postponed or cancelled yet despite this it has still been a fantastic year for me to get to know the children and staff and some of our families.  We have had a lot of laughs, stories and time for reflection and prayer too.  It was a joy to work with our year 6's who have moved on to their next school, in the next chapter of their lives.  But they have left us with lots of memories and their reflections will share with others the wisdom and experience of their time at Kirkdale, St. Lawrence.

It was a joy to see the children return this week and our Reception class children look very grown up and extra smart in their new uniforms.  I look forward to working alongside all the children from the Nursery to Year 6 and making it a memorable year together.

My hope for this year is that I can continue to  get get to know children, families and staff and my prayers are for you to have a blessed year.

Please let me know if you would like to share a thought, ask for a prayer, or simply have a chat.  You can contact me by email:

You may also arrange to speak to me via telephone.  I am in school on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
