Our Anchor Curriculum
Kirkdale St Lawrence ANCHOR Curriculum
Through collaboration with our school community, we have developed our ANCHOR Curriculum, which is built on six core strands:
Aim High, Nurturing, Culture, Oracy and Reading, Respect for All.
These strands underpin our curriculum and encompass everything we aspire to achieve by the time our pupils leave Kirkdale St Lawrence.
Curriculum Intent Statement
Our inclusive and nurturing curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all pupils, especially those from areas of high deprivation. We aim to remove barriers to learning, broaden horizons, and open doors to all that life has to offer, allowing our children to experience life in all its fullness.
With a dynamic and engaging curriculum rooted in hands-on learning and real-life experiences
Our pupils will leave Kirkdale St Lawrence equipped with the knowledge, skills, and Christian values needed to lead fulfilling lives with the highest aspirations. Our ethos of care and excellence permeates our curriculum, inspiring pupils to be the very best version of themselves, which is underpinned by our motto..
Oracy and reading are at the heart of our curriculum, giving pupils the keys to unlock future success and overcome disadvantage.
We believe that a rich academic curriculum and a wealth of life experiences go hand in hand. Through our curriculum, we open pupils’ eyes to the world beyond their locality, offering valuable and inspirational opportunities. We want our pupils to understand the diversity of the world in which we live—opening their eyes to endless possibilities.
Our Christian values underpin everything we do, helping children develop the moral compass required to make positive choices in life.
Our Six Core Strands
Aim High
At Kirkdale St Lawrence, we believe in aiming high for every child, regardless of background. Excellence is not about being the best but doing our best. Our curriculum equips children to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential, leaving school with the knowledge and skills needed to lead fulfilling lives with the highest aspirations.
Nurturing
Nurture is at the heart of everything we do. We create a safe, supportive environment where every child feels valued and loved. Our curriculum prioritises emotional wellbeing alongside academic success, ensuring children flourish socially, spiritually, and academically.
Culture
We celebrate diversity and foster belonging. Our curriculum reflects the rich cultural heritage of our community and the wider world, ensuring every child feels represented and respected. Through history, literature, art, and music, pupils gain a deeper appreciation of human culture and learn to value difference.
Oracy and Reading
Reading and vocabulary are at the heart of our curriculum. We believe fluent, confident readers who can articulate their ideas are best equipped for success. Oracy and vocabulary are explicitly taught in all lessons, enabling pupils to become confident communicators and overcome language barriers often linked to disadvantage.
Respect for All
Respect is central to our Christian ethos. We teach empathy, kindness, and understanding, preparing pupils to thrive in an interconnected world. Our curriculum promotes inclusivity and ensures every child learns to value others, regardless of background or circumstance.
