KSL History Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

At Kirkdale St Lawrence, our intention is to give pupils a broad and balanced History curriculum which will inspire their curiosity to know more about the past. Pupils will be encouraged to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, and sift arguments to develop perspective and judgement. We intend to provide pupils with the subject knowledge and historical skills needed to become an active member of society and gain a good understanding of our world to aid moving onto their future career choices. The pupils will achieve this through a cross curricular approach using a range of engaging and active learning techniques. The history curriculum at Kirkdale St Lawrence enables pupils to develop transferable knowledge and skills which can be used in other curriculum areas and throughout their further education.

Based on the curriculum maestro topics, we have planned a Whole School Map of Memorable Curriculum Moments to enrich our study of history. We regularly arrange school trips to places of interest connected to the topic being studied and invite experts into school to share their knowledge to help bring the pupils’ learning to life.
