KSL Curriculum Statement
Our curriculum stems from our school motto: “Together, with God in our heart, the path to our dreams will start.” With that in mind, we strive to continue to deliver a curriculum which prepares our pupils to grow as happy and fulfilled young people, prepared to make a positive contribution to their local community and the wider world.
At Kirkdale St Lawrence, we want every child to enjoy learning about the world around them and understand their place within it. Through the study of local, national and global geography, children develop a curiosity about different places, people and environments while gaining knowledge that helps them understand the interconnected world in which they live.
Our Geography curriculum is built around our ANCHOR principles, encouraging children to Aim High by asking questions, investigating the world around them and developing a lifelong love of learning. We Nurture all learners through an inclusive environment where every child is supported to succeed and feel valued.
As a school in Liverpool, we are proud of our city's unique geography, rich cultural diversity and connection to the wider world. Children learn about Liverpool, the United Kingdom and a range of locations across the globe. This helps them develop respect, understanding and appreciation for different environments, cultures and ways of life.
We are committed to promoting Culture and Respect for All, ensuring that children learn about a wide variety of countries, communities and landscapes. By exploring different perspectives and experiences, pupils develop empathy and gain a deeper understanding of the diverse world around them.
Through Geography, children develop curiosity, confidence and a strong understanding of both human and physical processes. They learn about places, climates, rivers, mountains, settlements and environmental issues while developing the skills to interpret maps, analyse information, ask questions and share their ideas with others.
We ensure all children can access and enjoy Geography through engaging lessons, high-quality resources, meaningful discussion and memorable learning experiences. Learning is carefully adapted so that all pupils can achieve success and make progress.
Guided by our Christian values, children also explore important themes such as stewardship, compassion, responsibility and service. This helps them understand the importance of caring for God's world, respecting others and making positive contributions to their communities and the environment.
Our aim is for every child to leave Kirkdale St Lawrence with a love of Geography, a strong understanding of the world around them, respect for people and places, and the confidence and aspiration to make a positive difference in the future.
