PSHE

At Kirkdale St Lawrence, we know how important the social and emotional development of our children is in preparing them for life in the modern world. Our PSHE curriculum reflects our ANCHOR curriculum, supporting our pupils to Aim High, be Nurtured, develop a strong Culture, engage in Hands-on learning, strengthen Oracy and Reading, and show Respect for All.
Through PSHE, we encourage our pupils to Aim High by developing confidence, resilience and positive aspirations for their future. We provide a nurturing environment where children feel safe to explore their emotions, develop healthy relationships and seek support when needed. Our PSHE curriculum contributes to a positive school culture, promoting kindness, tolerance, inclusion and acceptance.
Children are given opportunities for hands-on learning through discussion, role play, scenarios and practical activities that help them apply their learning to real-life situations. Oracy and reading are central to PSHE, enabling children to develop the vocabulary and communication skills needed to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas. Above all, PSHE promotes Respect for All, helping pupils understand differences, value others and make positive choices.
The skills and attributes acquired through PSHE can positively support children's life chances, academic success, mental health and wellbeing. Through high-quality teaching, we ensure that our pupils are given the knowledge, skills and support they need to flourish.
PSHE is delivered by class teachers using the Jigsaw scheme of work. This whole-school programme teaches children about emotional literacy, social and lifelong skills, RSE/RSHE and resilience in an age-appropriate manner, while providing opportunities for pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and values that underpin our ANCHOR curriculum.

The six Jigsaw Puzzles (half-termly units) are designed so the whole school can study the same learning themes at the same time, each year group at its own level. The pupils build on their depth of knowledge, understanding and skills as they progress through primary school.

Monday 16th to Friday 20th November 2026
ZONES OF REGULATION.
Sorting Our Emotions Into Four Zones
Feelings are complicated. They come in different sizes, intensities, and levels of energy that are unique in our brains and bodies. To make them easier to talk about, think about, and regulate, The Zones of Regulation organises our feelings, states of alertness, and energy levels into four coloured Zones – Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red. The simple, common language and visual structure of The Zones of Regulation helps make the complex skill of regulation more concrete for learners and those who support them. We learn to regulate our zones to meet our goals and task needs as well as support our overall well-being.
