Phonics ​​​

Excellent attendance and punctuality are essential to ensure children access lessons which build on prior learning and promote rapid progress. 

Phonics is given a high priority at Kirkdale St Lawrence. We start phase 2 in Reception and continue through to phase 5 through year 1 and 2. 

Year 1 children are required to take part in a National Phonics Screening check in Summer Term. 

In 2025 PSC, 64% of our children passed the check and are reading at the expected level for their age.
