Religious Education

At Kirkdale St Lawrence, we want every child to develop a deep understanding of Christianity and other world faiths and worldviews, exploring how beliefs influence people, communities and society. Through Religious Education, children develop a sense of identity, belonging and aspiration while gaining the knowledge and understanding needed to thrive in a diverse world.

Our RE curriculum is built around our ANCHOR principles, encouraging children to Aim High by asking thoughtful questions, reflecting deeply and developing curiosity about faith, belief and meaning. We Nurture all learners through an inclusive environment where every child feels valued, respected and confident to share their ideas. As a Church of England school, we encourage children to be Anchored to God, helping them develop faith, hope, wisdom and a strong moral foundation for life.

At the heart of our local community, we celebrate the diversity of the families, cultures and faiths that make Kirkdale unique. Children develop a strong understanding of Christianity while learning about a range of faiths and beliefs, helping them appreciate both similarities and differences between people and communities.

We are committed to promoting Culture and Respect for All, ensuring that children learn about diverse faiths, traditions and worldviews. Through exploring different perspectives, pupils develop empathy, respect and understanding of the world around them.

Through Religious Education, children learn about key beliefs, practices, celebrations and sacred texts while reflecting on questions of meaning, purpose and identity. Guided by our Christian vision and values, they explore themes such as love, courage, forgiveness, justice, compassion and service, inspiring them to make a positive difference in their school, community and the wider world.

Our aim is for every child to leave Kirkdale St Lawrence with a secure understanding of Christianity and other world faiths, respect for all people, and the confidence, wisdom and aspiration to flourish as compassionate and responsible citizens.

Collective Worship

At Kirkdale St Lawrence, Collective Worship is at the heart of our school community and reflects our Christian vision and values. Through worship, we encourage all children to be Anchored to God, developing faith, hope, wisdom and a sense of belonging within our school family and the wider community.

In line with our Church of England ethos, all collective worship is inclusive, invitational and inspirational. While the majority of worship is broadly Christian, children also explore our school values of Trust, Hope, Compassion, Thankfulness and Courage, helping them understand how these values can guide their daily lives and relationships.

Collective Worship plays an important role in our ANCHOR curriculum, supporting children to reflect, grow spiritually and develop respect for themselves and others. Children are encouraged to take an active role by leading prayers, sharing readings, participating in drama and contributing to worship through music and reflection.

We foster a sense of awe and wonder through moments of stillness, prayer, reflection and celebration. Through these experiences, children develop a deeper understanding of faith, community and their role in making a positive difference in the world around them.

Your Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)
We respect the beliefs and values of all our families. Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from Religious Education (RE) lessons, either in full or in part. If you would like to discuss this option, please contact the school office. We will work with you to ensure your child feels included and supported in alternative activities.
