Christian Vision and Values

Our Vision

We are the Kirkdale, St Lawrence family. We are a nurturing, safe, inclusive school which is the anchor of our diverse community. Through God’s love, we support everyone to flourish spiritually, academically and personally; this is our heartbeat.  All are valued here for who they are and what they could become.

We believe every child and adult is made in the image of God and is unique, valued and full of potential.

From this vision and from everything that our whole school community said about this we have chosen this Bible verse as it represents our school and its vision perfectly:

May he give you the desire of your heart and make your plans succeed

Psalm 20:4

Together, with God in our heart, the path to our dreams will start.

At Kirkdale St Lawrence CE Primary School, our Christian vision is at the centre of everything we do. Rooted in God’s love, we are a nurturing, inclusive and inspiring community where every child and adult is supported to flourish spiritually, academically and personally.

Our vision is not just words,  it shapes our decisions, our relationships and our daily life as a school family.

Our Values

Christian Values are fundamental expressions of what we think and believe.

As a school we encourage children to think about personal and social values, to become aware of, and involved in the life and concerns of our parish churches, their community and wider society.  In this way we develop their capacity to be active and effective future citizens.

This is our Kirkdale, St Lawrence family.

HOPE: We want everyone in our school to aspire to be the best that they can be. To know that there is always something worth working towards

THANKFULNESS: We are thankful for the gift of Jesus and God's love. We want everyone in our school to recognise the things, no matter how small, that they feel lucky to have and give thanks for these.

TRUST: This is the foundation of all relationships. To work as a whole school community to improve the lives of everyone within it we need to trust each other and in ourselves.

COMPASSION:  The Christian value that Jesus showed us in everything he did. We aspire to show compassion in all of our relationships. Through compassion we can forgive others. Through compassion, we can understand the lives of others also.

COURAGE:  We want us all to be brave, take risks and build their resilience. These are essential skills in learning and in life. The Christian value of courage encourages to always do this.

SERVICE: We help others, show kindness and make a positive difference. The Christian value of service encourages us to care for others.

These values guide:

  • how we treat each other
  • how we learn
  • how we make decisions

Living Our Vision

Our Christian vision is not just words — it shapes everything we do.

In our relationships

  • Everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
  • Children feel safe, valued and listened to
  • Behaviour is rooted in forgiveness and restoration.

In our learning

  • We aim for inclusive academic success for all.
  • We support children to develop spiritually and morally.
  • Our curriculum reflects our values and encourages curiosity and reflection.

In our community

  • We work closely with our church and local community.
  • We support charities and serve others..
  • We encourage children to be courageous advocates for change.

Impact: How we know our vision works

  • Pupils describe our school as “a place where everyone belongs”.
  • Children and staff confidently link values to their actions.
  • Strong relationships between staff, pupils and families.
  • Pupils show empathy, respect and courage in everyday life.

We use the British Sign Language (BSL) signs for our five values:

HOPE - cross both of your fingers and put them at shoulder height in front of your body

THANKFULNESS - place your flat hand in front of your mouth (palm to the mouth) and move your hand down to waist height so that observers can see the palm of your hand

TRUST - Make a flat hand (palm up) with your left hand. In a "chopping motion" move your right hand down to your left hand

COMPASSION - Flat hand in front of your chest (palm outwards) and "pat" or circle the hand as though stroking something.

COURAGE- Make both hands into loose fists near your shoulders. Pull them slightly downward and forward.

SERVICE – Place one hand flat (palm up) in front of you. Use the other hand (palm down) to gently scoop forward from the first hand, as if offering or giving help to someone.
